Strathpeffer & District Pipe Band

Strathpeffer & District Pipe Band was formed in 1980 to provide entertainment for residents and visitors in the village of Strathpeffer. They have been doing this each summer Saturday evening ever since, as well as playing at Highland Games and Gatherings across the north of Scotland. The “Strath Band” takes pride in nurturing young pipers and drummers, as well as retaining a strong core of long-serving members. Currently, the band has a strong family flavour with a number of sets of siblings, as well as father-son and father-daughter combinations.

Individually, a number of the band’s pipers compete very successfully on the north’s summer Highland Games circuit, and collectively the band compete well in occasional competitions. Rehearsals take place each Tuesday evening, summer and winter. It is this commitment to fostering talent of all ages that will help sustain the band in the future.

From their formation the band has turned out in the MacKenzie of Seaforth tartan. The Caberfeidh (stag’s head) cap badge is another symbol of the area, both this and the tartan of the band’s kilts forming part of the uniform of the Seaforth Highlanders, the local regiment. The band is rightly proud of its heritage and links to Strathpeffer and surrounding area.

Enjoy the band live on summer Saturday evenings in Strathpeffer Square – an appointment the band have not missed in almost 33 years.  The performances start at 8.30pm and lasts around an hour with a display of Highland Dancing from the Marion Munro School of Dance (weather permitting).

Please note that the Strathpeffer and District Pipe Band will be back performing in the Square in May 2016.
